Debordieu Colony Beach, Georgetown SC
In May of 2022, Coastal Transplants Installed 53,000 plants and 400 sections of Sand Fencing on the newly constructed dunes of the Debordieu Beach Colony Community in Georgetown, SC. This intricate 1.5-mile-long restoration designed by Coastal Science & Engineering consisted of new dunes made from dredged material and 3 groins to mitigate longshore movement of sand.
Within Weeks, we saw our native Sea Oat and Bitter Panicum plantings begin to grow rapidly and stabilize the new dunes. Our Sand Fencing, placed at the toe of the new dunes, will capture wind-blown sand and continue to grow the dunes. The success of this project will continue to keep oceanfront homes and the private beach of this community safe for years to come.
