Sea oats, also known as Uniola Paniculata, are the most important and widespread grass on southern coastal dunes. They produce large oat plumes during the summer months which grow to 3 - 6 feet tall.  The seed heads mature in the fall. They have long, narrow, pale green leaves measuring less than 1/2 inches in width. They are drought resistant and hardy plants that are immune to some fungus infections that can plague other grasses. They are great dune stabilizers with the ability to trap wind-blown sand which help build large sand dunes perfect for plant colonization. Extensive root systems of up to 30 feet below the surface of the sand dune helping maintain dunes especially during rough weather.  Because of their critical importance in maintaining healthy coastlines, sea oats are protected by law and it is illegal to tamper with or pick with sea oats or the seeds.

We recommend planting one plant per hole space 18" apart. At this recommendation, 200 plants should cover approxiamately 450 sq. ft.* This is not guaranteed as it will depend on how you space your plants when installing.
 
 
HOW TO DETERMINE HOW MUCH TO BUY:
1. First calculate your square footage, multiply the length in feet by the width in feet.
2. Then take your square footage and divide by 450 and round up to the nearest whole number.
 
For example:
A 900 sq ft lot needs 2 bundles.
[900 sq ft / 450 sq ft = 2 bundles]  
 
A 450 sq ft lots needs 1 bundle.
 
This is not guaranteed coverage as it will depend on the spacing you use to install your plants.
 
TWO PURCHASING OPTIONS AT CHECK OUT:
A. Plants only. Purchaser will be responsible for planting as well as shipping and delivery costs.  Delivery and shipping is based on current shipping rates and TBD after purchase. Email us if you would like a quote prior to purchase. Once you have made your purchase our team will be in touch to discuss date for your delivery. 
 
B. Plants plus installation.  Installation services are available for NC, SC, and VA for $60/bundle. Installation outside of NC, SC, or VA is available upon request. Please contact jmiller@coastaltransplants.com for a quote.  We will be in contact within 48 business hours to schedule your installation based on current inventory levels. 
 
 For North Topsail Beach Residents ONLY:
Cost Share Program for North Topsail Beach is for North Topsail Beach Properties only.  Anyone who purchases plants with a North Topsail Beach Delivery MUST BE planting those plants on a North Topsail Beach Property.  There will be an inspection two weeks after pick up to ensure plants have been installed at the address indicated on your form.  If plants are not planted at a North Topsail Beach location the purchaser will be billed for the full cost of the plant.
 
Pick up location will be at North Topsail Beach Town Hall on the date that you have chosen at check out.
 
Please note: If you choose for Coastal Transplants to install, then you do not need to pick up your plants and a sales team member will be in touch to schedule your installation.
